The Center Elzéar-DeLamarre is a place of exhibition, contemplation and reflection that pays tribute to the founder of the Ermitage and to those who contributed to his works. This project was carried out thanks to a great collaboration between the Antonian Sisters of Mary and the Capuchin brothers.
Through the different themes of the exhibition, the pilgrim and the visitor discover the values dear to the founder and always relevant to the 21st century: humility, generosity, tenacity, trust, respect and love of nature. A great man to discover!
"God alone is my Master", Victor DeLamarre
We invite you to come and discover with us the story of this strongman who marked the entire province of Quebec. He also toured parts of Canada and the United States, as he was performing various feats of strength for a living. Victor DeLamarre was the nephew of the founder of the sanctuary of Lac-Bouchette, the Abbe Elzéar DeLamarre. He has greatly contributed to its construction.
During his childhood, he dreamed of breaking the record of strength of Louis Cyr, world champion of the weight lifting in a 273.25-pound one handed snatch. Victor realized his most cherished wish at the age of 26 years. It was at the Arcade Theater of Montreal in front of an audience of approximately 1,300 people that it executed a 309.5-pound one handed (left) snatch. This record has not yet been matched.
From July 3, you will be able to see the magnificent belt that Victor had received in 1921 from his admirers. This beautiful piece is owned by the "Musée de la Civilization du Québec".
